Fire Prevention Week is generally held in October. During this week the department visits all of the schools in the City of Rensselaer, grades K-6, where they teach the children important lessons concerning fire safety and prevention. A community-wide open house is also held one evening, so that everyone can learn more about their fire department and the equipment used.
