Services
The Rensselaer Gas Utility began in 1961. Natural gas was brought into the city after voters in a city's Special Election approved a referendum vote in 1960. Shortly afterwards, residential and commercial gas service was offered. At present, we have approximately 3,135 meters in and around the City of Rensselaer.
The Goal of The Gas Department:
To supply our customers with natural gas as safe, efficient and as cost effective as possible.
The City of Rensselaer Gas Department continues to look to the future as the city grows and to be ready to respond to our residents.
We pledge to maintain a well-trained workforce, who are able to respond quickly to the needs of our customers.
Safety and training for hand-in-hand. The City of Rensselaer accomplishes this with continual training and testing courses. Classroom and field exercises are required of all employees, both hands-on and written exams are utilized. Each employee is evaluated on each task periodically, or as regulation dictates.
The Gas Department is equipped to handle all phases of supplying natural gas to its customers. The Gas Department has the equipment to bore under roads, trench for installations and also has a vacuum excavator truck to use in confined spaces.
