The City of Rensselaer Water Department complies with many state and federal regulations to protect human health & provide safe drinking water to our residential, commercial & industrial customers. It is our responsibility to provide quality water and service, while keeping the costs low for our customers. It is the Water Department's responsibility to annually provide the public with notification of utility performance with a report known as the Consumer Confidence Report (CCR).  

The Water Department:

  • The City of Rensselaer Water Department operates a WT3 facility with a designed plant capacity of 2.3 MGD & an average daily production of 0.60 MG.
  • Pump and treat ground water from the Sulrian & Devonian Carbonate Aquifer.
  • Pump treated drinking water into the distribution system and into three (3) elevated storage tanks with a combined storage capacity of 1,050,000 gallons.
  • Perform routine lab testing at the Water Treatment Plant & out in the distribution system daily.
  • Maintain & perform repairs on 39.5 miles of water main, 2823 service connections & 412 fire hydrants.

The City of Rensselaer is rated Class 6 by the Insurance Services Office, for water supply and fire protection.
